Nigeria @ 60: Okun land still underdeveloped, needs more Federal Attention-Obaro of Kabba cries out

The Obaro of Kabba and Chairman Okun Area Traditional Council, His Majesty, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi says the area needs more Federal attention even as the Country celebrate her 60th Independence.

Okun is the Yoruba speaking part of Kogi State with five Local Government Areas including Lokoja Local Government.

Worried by the level of underdevelopment in Okun land, Oba Solomon Dele Owoniyi while speaking with Newsmen on the 60th Independence of Nigeria, said “Okun need more attention especially Federal presence. We need a Federal University and that is why we have been clamouring for the upgrade of College of Agriculture Kabba to Federal University of Agriculture and good road is needed to open Okun land to economic development.”

He said currently, most of the Federal roads in Kogi State are in poor state, pointing out that the Rice Mill at Ejiba, Yagba West Local Government Area is yet to be fully tapped into due to the nature of the road.

The Obaro also identified community self help effort as Paramount to the development Okun land and called on public spirited Okun sons and daughters both at home and in Diaspora to develop their communities as government alone cannot do it.

According to him, Nigeria has made remarkable progress in the last 60 years as an Independent state.

“Looking at Nigeria as an entity in the last 60 years, I think we have not done too badly. At Independence in 1960, there were 3 regions in Nigeria, but today we have 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) which means that government is closer to the people.” The Royal Father stated.

He however called on government at all levels to give more attention to the welfare of traditional institution.
