
Member representing Mopamuro State constituency , Hon Jacob Sam Olawumi has lauded Governor Yahaya Bello for the establishment of College of Education Technical Mopa, Kogi State .
Hon Jacob Sam Olawumi gave this commendation on the floor of the House while supporting the motion for the second reading of the repeal and amendment bill for the provision of the law to establish the College.
The lawmaker said Gov Bello was magnanimous and has exhibited the spirit of fairness and justice by relocating the College from Kabba to Mopa .
Olawumi explained that before now other Senatorial districts and Federal constituencies have universities, polytechnics and Colleges of Education without any in Yagba federal constituency , pointing out that the establishment of the College by Gov Bello is to right the wrong.
Earlier, the House Bill 24 : A bill for a law to repeal Kogi State College of Education (Technical) Kabba 2010 and reenact Kogi State College of Education (Technical) Establishment Bill, and other matters there connected with 2024 went through the process of law making.
Leading the debate on the bill, the Majority Leader , Hon Suleiman Abdulrasak, who represents Okene Town explained the philosophy of the bill, pointing out that it was an executive bill.
He disclosed that having provided a functional University in Kabba for the people of Kogi West , it was necessary for the College to be relocated to Mopa .
He said when the College is relocated ,it would provide educational opportunities for people who could not access University education, just as he added that more manpower in different disciplines would be provided.
The Chairman House Committee on Education, Hon Idrees Aliyu Maikudi who represents Kogi -Koto state constituency also stressed that when the establishment bill is passed into law more of the people in Yagba Federal constituency would access technical and vocational education.
The bill was subsequently passed into law having gone through its third and final reading
