FIWON Seek Support from Ministry of Commerce, Industry

The Federation of Informal Workers’ Organization of Nigeria (FIWON) has appealed to the Kogi State Ministry of Commerce and Industry to come to the aide of the informal sectors in order to uplift small and medium businesses.

Chairperson of the organisation, Hajia Maryam Usman Ibrahim who made the appeal recently during a courtesy visit to the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, said the organisation had been making a concerted effort to improve the working and living conditions of people working under the informal sector.

She noted that the organisation has strive enough to achieve this through capacity building of Informal Workers groups via civics education training , skill upgrading , entrepreneurial training and advocacy engagement with both state and local government as well as international development organizations.

The FIWON Chairperson however stated that the visit was principally to seek area of collaboration between the ministry and the informal sector in the state.

The commissioner was represented by the Permernet Secretary and the directors of the ministry were in attendance  promised to involve FIWON in all the project that will be come to the  ministry, with advice to cooperate with the ministry.

“Since the creation of this ministry, we have never had it so good all through, we have been hearing funds being budgeted for the informal sectors through your ministry , but it has never come to the grassroots.

“For the first time, funds are going out from the Ministry to the grassroots. You have really show and display dedication and transparency in your ministry. We appreciate your effort and sincerity” she said.
