HON. (MRS.) ONOBA, JANE TAYO
An educationist and a grass root politician
Hon. (Mrs.) Onoba, Jane Tayo was born on 31st January, 1966 in Ogori in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area of Kogi State. She began her education at St. Peter’s Primary School, Ogori and later proceeded to Lennon Memorial College, Okene. She was at Okene Teacher’s College where she was trained to become a school teacher by profession. She is a graduate of the University of Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria with a Bachelor degree in Arts (Education). She taught at different schools and impacted well to the younger generations for over twenty years. She is known for her total commitment to her job, passionate about the success of students under her care.
In her school days, she served as the president Ogori Students’ Association while she was at the University of Jos. Outside the classroom, Mrs. Onoba served as the Quality Assurance Evaluation officer in the Ministry of Education and today, she is the Head of Department, Project, Research and Statistics in the same ministry. She had the opportunity to serve as the Deputy Chairperson of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) in Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area.
In the year 2005, Mrs. Jane Onoba was appointed as a Special Adviser on Women and Youth Development by a former governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ibrahim Idris and she served in that capacity till 2007. She was appointed as the coordinator of Women for Change for her local government area, a job that she piloted very well to the admiration of all the women in the area. She is a member of Kogi Central Women Forum, an organization helping to enlighten, educate and mobilize women on how to achieve greatness in life through empowerment.
In the political front, Hon. (Mrs.) Jane Tayo Onoba was a member of the 2019 Atiku’s Presidential Campaign Council Kogi State, she served in the Women Mobilization Committee and a member of its Support Groups. She equally served as GYB/CEDO women mobilizer in Ogori-Magongo L.G.A. A role she played well that led to the resounding victory of Governor Yahaya Bello during the 16th November, 2019 governorship election in Kogi State. As this publication is set to be published, Mrs. Onoba was a front runner for the Chairmanship position of Ogori-Magongo Local Government Area under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2020.
At the Ogori Community level, Mrs. Onoba had served twice as the National Financial Secretary of Ogori Descendants’ Union (ODU). She has been involved in both financially and physically on most developmental projects in her community. She is always concerned with the state of educational institutions in her community and she continuously strives to see how best to improve them in all fronts especially in the area of deploying of more teachers and instructional materials within her limited power. Every community problem is her concern which has shown the patriotic nature in her.
Mrs. Onoba is currently using politics as a platform to see how challenges being faced by his community are resolved in favour of the aged, women, youth, artisans and the poorest of the poor. She wants to use politics to resolve unemployment issue facing the youths, to encourage children to go to school in order to secure functional and qualitative education, to empower women and youth, to provide access to potable water, pursue adequate security for the people and to harness the vast mineral resources, such as iron ore, limestone, marble, granite and clay as well as harness talents and cultural potentiality of the community.
To those who know her deeply, Mrs. Onoba is full of humility, kindness, virtues, honesty and very open to all.
She is happily married and she is blessed with children.
