*HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVE 2023: IJUMU LOCAL GOVERNMENT SHOULD HAVE IT FOR EQUITY, JUSTICE AND FAIRNESS.*
By Team Charvid
As the race for 2023 House of Representatives election is gathering momentum, political parties are round the clock to adopt strategies towards winning the election. The strategy of winning election cannot be achieved if a political party fail to acknowledge the realities as it affects the electorate.
For decades, traditionally, House of Representatives seat for Kabba/Bunu/Ijumu has been based on rotated among the two Local Governments. The gentleman zoning arrangement has before now settled lots of issues of marginalization, unfairness, injustice and sentiment.
In the Federal Constituency, the Reps seat have been rotated between the two Local Governments and Districts therein.
To set the record straight, In 1999 Hon. Abiodun Ojo from Ijumu LG became the House of Representatives member on the platform of PDP. At the expiration of his tenure in 2003, the slot came to Kabba/Bunu and Hon. Duro Meseko was elected also on the platform of same party.
In 2007, the slot went back to Ijumu and Senator Melaiye Daniel Dino represented the constituency. After the expiration of Senator Melaiye Daniel Dino in 2011, the slot came to Kabba/Bunu where Hon. Ayo Tajudeen Yusuf represented the constituency till date.
Hon Ayo Tajudeen Yusuf of kabba/Bunu and his party the PDP truncated this gentlemen zoning arrangement.
When his third term tenure ends in 2023, Kabba/Bunu will have retained 12 years of 3 terms in National Assembly.
Reliably, the same Hon. Ayo Tajudeen Yusuf of Kabba /Bunu Local Government Area is again warming up and gunning for the fourth term in the House of Representatives.
It must be clearly seen to be truly unfair for any Kabba/Bunu person to again seek for House of Representatives position come 2023.
It would be of utmost importance to maintain the very cordial relationship between the two Local Governments by not allowing narrow minded ambitious politicians to cloud the age-long brotherly relationship.
We must commend APC for maintaining rotational arrangement in its basketing of political positions hitherto and even going forward.
In 2015, APC zoned the House of Representatives ticket to Ijumu and Barrister Lewis T. Asubiojo became the flag bearer but lost to Hon. Ayo Tajudeen of Kabba/Bunu, Hon. Wemi Ojo Jones picked the APC ticket in 2019 and lost again to Ayo Tajudeen Yusuf.
It would be expeditious for the party APC this time to critically look towards Ijumu Local Government area so as to maintain the gentleman zoning arrangements.
Therefore, based on the equity, fairness and justice that this administration of Governor Yahaya Bello is known for, the next Reps seat for Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu Federal Constituency should be zoned to Ijumu.
In doing this, since APC has never occupied the seat, it is expedient for the Party to choose a popular candidate like, Barrister David Aiyedogbon.
