Democracy is defined as the government of the people for the people by the people.
The above definition implies that the choice to choose a leader is vested in the people while the elected leader holds power in trust for the benefit of the people.
In liberal democracy as practice in Nigeria, the ultimate power resides in the people who are faced with the challenges of electing the right man/woman into political/leadership positions. This is so because the choice of electable representative all over the world, getting the right person for the job where popular democracy is practiced has always been a herculean task.
However, the choice of Pius Kolawole as the democratically elected chairman of Yagba West can best be said to be one of the best political decisions taking by the good people of Yagba West in recent times.
Since the Asiwaju of Omiland assumed office on December 14, 2020 as the Executive Chairman of Yagba West, this young, energetic young man has demonstrated enormous capacity and showcased traits of good leadership.
Hon. Pius as a courageous man has continued to demonstrate commitment by providing needed leadership for his people , giving direction when required for delivery.
Considering the high cost of medical/health delivery to the masses, Pius within one year of his administration has organized two free medical outreaches for people with different ailments where several health challenges are attended to. The program which was taking to the door steps of the people across the 14 wards.
As a Philanthropist, who himself had gone through what poverty is all about has continue to support the less privileged, reaching out to indigents students who approached him for assistance.
There is no doubting the fact that when capacity, inclusiveness and performance is taken into consideration, Hon. Pius is one of Yagba best eleven, reasons why he has continue to enjoy the support and encouragement of Apapo Omo Yagba(AOY)
As a man who leads by example, he was visibly seen leading security agents to comb the forest of Yagba West as a proactive measure to rid our forest of criminal element.
Under Pius leadership and with the support of his mentor, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Bello the Chief Security, Yagba West made history when none of the armed robbers that attacked Banks in Odo-Ere and Egbe in Yagba West Local Government were allowed to escaped. This is unprecedented in the history of Nigeria.
Due to his pragmatism, responsiveness and smartness, Yagba West remained the most peaceful and economically viable local government in Kogi State. Because of his humility and politics of progressivism, running an open door administration and lifting humanity, Hon. Pius Kokawole leading Yagba West is described as a square peg in a square hole.
Conclusively, one may not be wrong to conclude that the good people of Yagba West got it right in their choice of Pius Kolawole.
