The Zone 8 – Crusher road which had been in a deplorable state for over three successive administrations has finally gotten the attention of government as rehabilitation and construction work has commenced on it.
The 6 kilometre road which houses strategic government offices as well as the Kogi state House of Assembly and the Kogi state High court had suffered neglect for a very long time.
Leading a delegation of lawmakers on an overnight visit to some ongoing projects, the chairman Kogi state House standing committee on works, Hon. Umar Yahaya urged the contractor to do a quality job as there was a heavy vehicular traffic on the road.
He commended Governor Yahaya Bello for embarking of the rehabilitation of the road and other projects been executed across the state.
Hon. Yahaya maintained that the oversight to the project was geared at ensuring that the people of Kogi state and the government get value for monies expended on projects.
The Project Manager of the construction company, TEC Engineering, Mr Deng Shuowu said the company was poised to doing a quality job.
He said the company which had been mobilized would not exceed it’s twelve months completion period.
Mr Shuowu said the scope of the project included, culverts, drainages, concrete works and a five centimeters asphalt overlay.
He appreciated the lawmakers for their visit saying it was a reassurance that the legislative arm was up and doing to ensure Kogi state develops
The committee which was at the Assembly complex been reconstructed expressed total satisfaction with the work at the complex.
The lawmaker commended the contractor for doing a good and quality job.
Speaking to newsmen the contractor handling the Assembly complex, Mr Joseph Oluwasegun promised to hand over the project to the lawmakers by Sunday.
The contractor said he would ensure that everything was ready before handing over the complex to the lawmakers.
At the state secretariat, the lawmaker frowned at the contractor handling the perimeter fencing of the secretariat and he was not on site to receive them
The also said that the contractor who had received 70% mobilisation fee had only doing 55% of work as the project completion period was six months and would elapse next month.
The committee requested that the contractor appear before the house of assembly to answer questions on the neglect of the project
