Ahead of 2023 general elections, Kwara state Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq has cautioned Nigerians, particularly the political class, against conducts capable of putting the country’s security under threat.
AbdulRazaq, who gave the admonition at the 28th Convocation ceremony of the Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin, the state capital, was represented by his deputy, Mr. Kayode Alabi, urging that political campaigns and the elections proper should be allowed to hold peacefully devoid of untoward conducts and utterances that could affect security of the country and bring the nation down.
“Nigeria must not fall. As we are now in era of politics let us avoid anything that could worsen security of the country. Let us play the game by the rules of the game,” he stated.
AbdulRazaq stressed the need for the sustenance of zero tolerance for cultism and other social vices by the Polytechnic, adding that peace and unity among the entire Polytechnic community, prompt accreditation and re-acrediation of courses, and improvement of the standard of education in the state would be vigorously pursued.
He said all these would not only bring back the lost glory of the institution, but also further improve its ranking among other tertiary institution’s in the country.
The Governor charrged the graduating students to make the best use of the training and skills they had acquired in the school to be self employed and thereby contribute their own quotas to the development of the sate and the country at large.
He said: “With the present economic situation in our country, what you need is to face life headlong, confront it with courage drawing from the practical training and entrepreneurship skills you have acquired while in the Polytechnic, to establish yourselves as self employed graduates and job providers.
“You should always project the good name of the Polytechnic positively wherever you find yourselves. Since we have no other country, all hands must be on the deck to keep contributing our quotas to the progress and development of our dear state in particular and Nigeria in general.
“I urge you to make use of the enormous skills you have acquired to impact positively on the remote and immediate environment. Subsequently, you will stand out among your peers.”
Both the Chairman, Governing Council of the Polytechnic, Hon. Ahmed Yinusa and the Rector of the institution, Engr. Abdul Jimoh Mohammed, charged the 7, 781 graduating students to make themselves self-reliant through the training and skills they had acquired in the school and also make themselves good ambassadors of the institution.
Yinusa said: “I wish to candidly advise my dear graduands, that you should be ready to put into constructive use that qualitative educational instructions and skills garnered in the Polytechnic for the continued development of our dear country, especially during this period of our collective need to be beneficiaries of technical and technological advancement.
“Furthermore, I urge you to tap from the abundant entrepreneurial skills gained in the Polytechnic to launch yourselves into self-reliance. This, I strongly believe, will not only be to your advantage, but will also go a long way to complement the government’s policies towards taking Nigeria away from mono-economy. “
