Kwara: NSCDC boss moves to curb farmers/herders clashes

An appeal has gone to royal fathers and community leaders in Kwara State to work towards peaceful coexistence of farmers and herdsmen in their respective communities and put an end to the incessant clashes between the duo in the State.
The appeal was made by the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Makinde Iskil Ayinla, while reacting to the two recent separate herders/farmers bloody clashes in Alapa and Patigi towns of Asa and Edu local government areas of the State.
According to the NSCDC spokesman in the State, Babawale Zaid Afolabi, the Commandant frowned at the geometrical rate of farmers/herders clashes in some of the communities in the State, adding that efforts are ongoing by the Corps to meet the royal fathers and village heads in order to find lasting solution to the crises.
“it will be recalled that on Saturday 07/01/2022, one Mohammed Aliu, 42 of Tankpafu village came to report how Fulani herdsmen stormed his farm and uprooted all his cassava plantation to feed their cattle and also on Saturday there was a bloody clash between farmers and a Fulani herder in which both of them sustained serious matchete injuries,” Babawale narrated.
He explained further that security has been beefed up in those communities, adding that there would soon be a stakeholders’ forum comprising representatives of the village heads, Fulani herders, farmers and the security agencies in order to find lasting solutions to the crises.
