NATIONAL VOLUNTEER SERVICE (NNVS) PAYS A COURTESY VISIT TO THE MANAGING DIRECTOR NATIONAL INLAND WATERWAYS AUTHORITY (NIWA):
Dr. GEORGE MOGHALU
Dr. George Moghalu, the Managing Director Inland Waterways Authority in Nigeria is a man with so many fielders and uncommon character in all human endeavours. The Nigeria National Volunteer Service and Diaspora Affairs Kogi State Chapter, through the Research and Documentation department beamed her search light on him since his assumption as the Managing Director, of the Inland Waterways in Kogi State the Headquarter of this federal government parastatal. The Research and Documentation discovered that Dr. George Moghalu is a special breed endowed to transform leadership through his capacity, competence and character.
No wonder he is described as a great patriot devoid of ethnicity, religious or political affiliation, a detribalized Nigerian.
His love for humanity is clearly demonstrated by the transformation of the welfare of the labour force under his leadership and he also instilled discipline and self-esteem into them which brought motivation and these qualities greatly increased productivity in all the departments of the organization.
Nigeria National Volunteer Service (NNVS) having watched his activities at the National Inland Waterways Authority deem it necessary to bestow on him an Award of Outstanding Stewardship to service, for showing responsibility and innovativeness and one of such is the commissioning of the Onitsha River Port that has lingered for decades before his assumption into office as the Managing Director.
Politically he has remained one of the most consistent politicians in Nigeria. He is a man of credibility that no matter what he gets for seeking higher levels to serve a larger public he is confronted with some challenges, but he has resolved to serve God; no wonder he said, “life is not for the wise, neither for the knowledgeable and strong but time and chance happens to them.”
In his response at the event of the award on the day of the courtesy call anchored by Nigeria National Volunteer Service (NNVS) and the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), the Managing Director took us through some misconceptions especially, why he is not always available at the headquarter in Kogi state, he took time to explain to the delegation, other responsibilities or challenges he had to attend to at the Abuja office, at the National Assembly as a member of sub committees, and most significantly his official engagement with his mother ministry, the Ministry of Transportation. Nevertheless he is determined to make Lokoja office which is the headquarter of the Waterways to achieve all the lofty targets of the organization. And as it concern the story going on that he has an interior agenda to move the headquarters of Inland Waterways from Kogi State is unfounded and a rumor from the pit of hell.
Kogi is the headquarters of the National Inland Waterways in Nigeria by legislation and he has no power whatsoever to move the headquarters from Kogi State. So Kogites and Nigerians should dismiss this idea because the thought is coming from mischievous makers which do not hold any element of truth. Dr. George Moghalu reiterated of his preparedness to face the challenges of leadership hoping to transform Lokoja, Water Port before the end of his tenure.
The Nigeria National Volunteer Service (NNVS) present at the event pleaded with him to do all it takes to accomplish his promises especially the Lokoja Water Port and be commissioned in no distance time.
In his final note he appealed to the youths to face the future with all seriousness as the future of Nigeria lies in their hands, he also advised them to confront drugs abuse, thurgery and other criminal acts such as armed robbery, banditry and kidnapping to make Nigeria better place. He did not make mistake to tell the audience that his success is not devoid of pragmatic and hardworking Management and staff of the various departments of National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA).
Finally in view of his outstanding performance politically and in all other human endeavours he has added value to President Muhammadu Buhari’s transformation agenda. Dr. George Moghalu deserved a bigger responsibility to serve a large public having been tested politically and other areas and found worthy in all ramifications.
