POLITICAL LEADERS SHOULD INITIATE IDEAS THAT BINDS NIGERIANS TOGETHER
Political leaders have advocated that “worst democratic governance is better than the
best military dictatorship” comparing these two systems of Governance we discovered
that the military has contributed more to uniting Nigerians under one entity than the
civilian administration. This is a far cry from the view for military rule, the idea of this
write up is for our politicians to learn from the policies of the military era, in their
conscious efforts for integration and to make Nigeria one, for example, the introduction
of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) was initiated to unify us from all over Nigeria
to interact, intermarry and to properly harmonize our common interest, love one another
for social economic development, a country where all Nigerian will live without recourse
to ethnicity and religion.
The current political elites especially for the National Assembly are advocating for the
scrapping of NYSC when they have not introduced any bill to unit Nigerians. What is the
rational for the call of the scrapping NYSC.
The military introduced unity schools where all Nigerian children learn to gather under
one roof, love is developed, culture is shared, this is the spirit we are advocating to have
a one Nigeria where patriotism is taught from those schools and the Nigerian spirit to live
together as one Nigeria as encapsulated in our constitution.
In the quest to foster unity after the civil war and proper integration, rehabilitation and
reconciliation the military adopted the following measures:
Restoration of peace and order during political crises
Decrees in the problem of tribalism in the formation of political parties in Nigeria
Local government reforms of 1976
Foreign policy advocacy
Agricultural development, large scale rehabilitation on operation feed the nation
(OFN)
Education and communication
In the face of these stearing challenges of insecurity fueled by ethnicity, and religious
intolerance, hatred and unemployment, what are the steps taken by our political leaders
in the national assembly to address the issues of insecurity and to live together as one,
rather what is on the front burner is counting on the weaknesses and failure of the ruling
party and scheming on how to take over power in 2023.
Progressive should constantly be thinking and proffering situations to
insecurity and what binds us together in the seeming failure of governance
than wishing that one party fails for necessary change of power. What makes
the difference if solutions for better Nigeria is not sought now than when
power changes hand.
My humble submission on this write up is an appeal to our Political elites and leaders in
all states of Leadership. See Nigeria as one and proffer solutions on making Nigeria one,
and how to stay in peace without kidnapping, banditry, and all forms of terrorism steering
at us in spite of any party in power mark you, hunger, insecurity, killing and general
insecurity has no tribe, religion or regionalizing, the earlier we wake up and stop hiding
behind the failure of one party as a ploy to hack on for 2023, the better for us all, “What
goes around, comes around always”
Political parties are vehicles when leaders emerge what is sacrosanct to me is to focus on
how to make Nigeria better for all of us, not waiting on the fence until that party collapse.
Vehicle in motion are always lubricated to be in motion for the benefit of the owner and
the passengers to its destination.
Our major focus in this challenging time should be proffering solutions to agitation of
insurrection, this unity and insecurity in our dear land, and focus on what binds us as a
country like what the military did to keep Nigeria one after the war, if I may ask, what
has democratic dispensation done since 1999 as an institution of unity to keep Nigeria
one? This is a critical area we should explore to avoid insurrection and agitation for
separation fueled by ethic religious jingoism.
This is the area my Governor, Alh. Yahaya Adoza Bello has performed excellently, and I
wish he yield to the clarion, call of Nigerians to put this country on the right pedestal in
2023.
Another secret is empowerment of woman because if their vulnerability in terms of war,
and men usually die living behind children to be taking care of adequately for
development and posterity.
