Senate to deliberate on bill that strengthens fight against cybercrime-Oseni
In order to secure Nigeria cyberspace against threat of any kind, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology/Cybercrime, Senator Yakubu Oseni has hinted that there is an existing private bill being considered that to strengthen the fight against the scourge of cyber insecurity.
Senator Oseni made this known recently while fielding questions from newsmen shortly after an oversight visit to the cyberdome in Abuja.
Cyberdome headed by Don Egbuna is the agency that amongst other functions, work assiduously against the influx of spam messages to government establishments or intercept same.
The lawmaker who described cybercrime as a global threat that needs urgent and decisive attention, suggested that all Ministries, Departments and Agencies in the country take precautionary measures in order not to be caught unaware by fraudsters.
“The National Assembly is really worried about the trend of cyber attacks around the world. It is quite alarming that some of our youths are trying to engage in cyber-related criminal activities. Reason there is upcoming bill in the Senate which, meant to strengthen the fight against cybercrime and the general public is expected to make contributions when it is time for public hearing “, he revealed.
Senator Oseni who further urged Nigerians not to leave the war against cyber fraud for the Senate alone hinted that there would be international conference on cyber security which aimed on educating Nigerians on the dangers of cyber criminality and proffer possible solutions.
Consequently, he called on Nigerians especially the youths to abhor unwholesome acts in the cyberspace, arguing that such is capable of denting the hard earned image of the country at the international scene.
