TRIBUTE TO LATE DR AUGUSTINE SIBINA TAIYE OBARO: COORDINATOR,
HEALTHCARE ESSENTIALS FOR THE DISADVANTAGED FOUNDATION
HCEDF,OGORI
Healthcare Essentials for the Disadvantaged Foundation, Ogori, Kogi state started some years
ago with a few UK and Nigeria based Ogorians coming together with the great idea of
forming a Charity group that would benefit senior citizens that were helpless or
disadvantaged and taking up the responsibility of caring for them in their homes.Several other
people of like minds have since joined the initial few members that started it .After securing
an office space, registration of beneficiaries commenced following an initial survey with
predetermined criteria to access those qualified. After registration,Carers were interviewed,
employed and fully trained on how to take care of our clients in the areas of laundering their
clothes, preparing their meals, cleaning of their houses, shopping for them, bathing etc as the
need for such arose. Those that needed meals and could not afford such were also supported
with meals provided for by the Charity Organization. The service of a full time resident and
registered Nurse was also secured to take care of minor health needs of the clients. Those
with major issues were usually referred and assisted to the hospital.
The Charity took off with an initial 162 clients cutting across Ogori and neighbouring
Magongo. This figure has since exceeded 300 clients with some of them needing the services
of Carers on a daily basis.
Of course as would be expected, our beloved Dr Obaro, ever ready to serve and care for
humanity, was one of the people that came together to form the Charity group and he
remained a committed member till he passed on to eternity. He held the position of the
Coordinator of the group. Part of the responsibilities attached to his post were directing,
monitoring and protecting the interests of the group and its clients. As was his nature, he did
far more than his assigned responsibilities.
He was the father figure of the group, chief adviser, spiritual leader, counselor and an
authority in almost all spheres. He was very approachable with listening ears and so much
patience for all and sundry. He was an encourager and motivator. He was always the
stabilizing person, the one to calm the storms with his wise counsels whenever such times
arose.
He was a very generous person who never spared any amount or anything to ensure that the
goals of HCEDF were achieved. Hmmm! A very big vacuum has been created in HCEDF
which only God can fill. He will be sorely missed by members, staff and clients of
HCEDF. Those of us left behind with the help of God, will continue to strive hard to see that
HCEDF grows from strength to strength as this was his heart’s desire.
Our consolation lies in the fact that he served his creator with all his heart and humanity
alike.
We join millions of his admirers and loved ones to pray for the family he left behind that they
will be comforted and never lack anything good in life in Jesus Christ name.
Fare thee well our beloved Dr Obaro. We love you dearly but God loves you more. Continue
to rest well in the bosom of your creator. “Tigure ededa oboro, aape weda. Ogan mubo”
