As the jostling for the chairmanship seat of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is gathering momentum in Kogi State,
it is pertinent to state clearly that different personalities across the state are fast warming up to occupy the coveted seat in June, 2023. One of the most serious minded individuals who has genuine reasons for thinking to lead the party is Hon. Sunday Shigaba. He looks forward to steer the ship of PDP to higher level. He has all the needed attributes to occupy the position and he is determined to succeed with the support of God and members of the party.
WHO IS HON. SUNDAY SHIGABA?Hon. Sunday Shigaba is a Nigerian politician, administrator and philanthropist, he hails from Bassa Local Government Area of Kogi State. He is a graduate of the Bayero University Kano. Between 1997 and 1998, young and dynamic Sunday was elected a Councillor for his ward and equally served as the Supervisory Councillor for Health and Medical Services for his local government area, this job he effectively performed creditably well to the admiration of his people.Hon. Shigaba was a foundation member of the People’s Democratic Party PDP in his local government area. He became the first elected PDP chairman of his local government area on the 5th December, 1998.Between 2004 and 2005,
Hon. Shigaba was appointed as the chairman Bassa Transport Services (BTS). His performance recorded huge success to the transport sector in Bassa Local Government Area.In 2007, he contested for the chairmanship position of his local government area on the platform of the PDP, he had a landslide victory. For the next four years,
Hon. Shigaba worked so hard to improve on the condition of his people especially in the area of good governance, employment, empowerment, health care delivery, education and infrastructural development.He was elected into the Kogi State House of Assembly twice 2011 and 2015. Throughout his days in the House, he was outstanding. He moved motions and bills that have moved the state onward. He served in different House Committees either as chairman or member. He was chairman House committee on Establishment and Public Service Matter Committee and Commerce and Industries Committee. He was vice chairman of the Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs,
Works and Housing Committee and Health and Social Service Committee. He was equally a member of the House Committee on Education, Science and Technology Committee,
Works and Housing Committee, Information and Pubic Enlightenment Committee and Land and Physical Development Committee. At different times he was made deputy majority leader, acting majority leader and minority whip.
Hon. Shigaba is a specially made politician, very committed to PDP. He refused to leave the party despite all pressure from left and right on him to join the All Progressives Congress.Hon. Shigaba worked very hard to deliver substantial votes to the People’s Democratic Party in the last general election and he successfully handed over victory to the party during the House of Assembly election for Bassa State House of Assembly. It is in the public domain that Hon.Shigaba is interested to serve as the State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) and he is soliciting for support from members of the party. Here is a man who has placed strong premium on quality leadership, good governance, empowerment, girl-child education, rural development, fighting insecurity, provision of socio-infrastructure, agriculture and most importantly building religious harmony through his well-articulated policies while in office and even outside it. Conclusion want to also use this medium to renew the calls by individuals or groups in Kogi State to support the chairmanship position being sought for by Hon. Shigaba. He is better qualified for the position than any other contender that has declared interest so far. His intention to join the race for the chairmanship is not a desperate quest for enrichment, a superfluous chase after self-aggrandizement, a quixotic adventurism on the podium of our national politics or an attempt to pursue hedonistic political careerism in any form. No, but rather he is genuinely inspired to provide credible leadership to the People’s Democratic Party in Kogi State. Let us continue to give support to this progressive ambition of Hon. Shigaba.His emergence as the state chairman of the PDP in June will usher in peace, progress and success for the party. The party will bounce back to take control of the government of Kogi State after the 11th November, 2023 governorship election.Shigaba is coming to unite the party members and work hard for membership drive across the state.
