The Commissioner For Culture and Tourism, Hon. Acharu Okpanachi has appealed to the State Government to return Kogi hotels, Confluence Beach Hotels, Commissioner’s Eatery and Obasanjo Square to the Ministry to boost the revenue performance in the subsequent years.
Hon. Acharu made the appeal during the ongoing 2025 Kogi Ministerial Budget Defence at the State House of Assembly in Lokoja.
The Commissioner said the Ministry of Culture and Tourism is established with a view to stimulating economic growth in the State.
According to her, the Ministry’s mandate is to put in place programs and events that attract International, National and Local Tourists.
“The Ministry of Culture and Tourism vision (and mission) is to promote the diverse cultural heritage of Kogi State and to identify and develop the tourism potential of the State as a means of job creation, wealth generation as well inculcating pride and dignity in our local artist and cultural values.”
On the removal of the means of revenue generation for the Ministry, Hon. Acharu appealed to the State Government to release the Muhammadu Buhari Square to the Ministry to manage.
The Commissioner highlighted the achievements of the Ministry since her assumption of office to include, cleaning and maintenance of the tourist sites in Lokoja with the aim of attracting local and International Tourist for revenue generation.
Other achievements according to Hon. Acharu are, Kogi @ 33/unvailing of Kogi International Carnival Logo as well as the successfully hosting of Kogi International Carnival from 1st to 7th December, 2024 with the aim of showcasing the colonial historic and cultural potentials to the rest of the world.
