The Kwara State Police Command has restored peace in Omu-Aran, Irepodun Local Government Area, following coordinated disturbances by some irate youths that resulted in the vandalization of property and disruption of public peace on May 25 and 26, 2025.

A statement by the spokesperson of the Police Command, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, said the unrest began after the arrest of one Azeez, popularly known as A-Z, a suspected drug dealer and arms trafficker, by operatives of the Anti-kidnapping Squad.

She said: “The suspect was reportedly freed by a mob while being transported to the station. The mob later attempted to breach the police station’s perimeter but were repelled. They proceeded to the Olomu’s Palace, where they set fire to a motorcycle belonging to the monarch’s police orderly.

“The violence escalated the following day as the group attacked Olomu Aperan Microfinance Bank, damaging vehicles, the bank’s signboard, CCTV system, and other property.

“Five suspects have since been arrested in connection with the attacks, and the bank staff were safely escorted to the police station.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, has ordered intensified patrols and surveillance in the area to prevent further breakdown of law and order. The public is advised to remain calm and avoid spreading false information as investigations continue.”
