The Senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District, Sen. Sunday Karimi, has announced plans to disburse N300 million as scholarship to 3000 students of Kogi State in public tertiary institutions across the country.
The All Progressive Congress (APC) senator made the announcement at a media briefing at the NUJ Press Centre on Saturday in Lokoja, to mark his second year in office.
Karimi highlighted his achievements and ongoing projects, reaffirming his commitment to delivering dividends of democracy to his constituents.
He explained that the scholarship program would benefit students from all three senatorial districts in Kogi State, with N100 million allocated to East, N61 million to Central, and N139 million to Kogi West.
This initiative, he said was in solidarity with Tinubu Support Group and Sen. Sunday Steve Karimi Students Bursary Award for 2025.
The senator noted that he had previously given out N100 million in scholarship funds to 1,000 students in Kogi West in 2024.
He added that he was also investing in educational infrastructure, including investing N160 million in the construction of a Computer-Based Test (CBT) center in Titcombe College Egbe.
Karimi said the CBT would serve students from multiple local governments in Kogi West and neighboring states.
According to him, 275 laptops have already been provided for the center, while also funding other necessary facilities.
“Additionally, I also plans to build another CBT center in Yagba at a cost of over N250 million,” he said.
On infrastructure and security projects, Karimi emphasised his contributions to infrastructure development, including the provision of transformers and solar-powered streetlights to over 500 communities.
Rehabilitation of over 140 boreholes, and ongoing road projects worth over N2 billion.
He also disclosed his personal investment in security, particularly the establishment of a Forward Operations Base (FOB) along the Kogi-Kwara border to combat criminal activities, which cost over N750 million.
Speaking on his empowerment initiatives, Karimi mentioned various empowerment initiatives, including the release of N100 million to support women in the district and another N60 million to a separate group of beneficiaries.
“These initiatives demonstrate my commitment to improving the lives of his constituents and promoting economic development in the region,” he said.
Karimi, therefore reaffirmed his commitment to serving his constituents and delivering more developmental projects and democratic benefits to the people of Kogi West.
He commended President Bola Tinubu’s efforts in addressing inherited challenges and pledged to continue supporting his administration to ensure Nigeria’s progress.
