Rt. Hon. Egwaba attends Dialogue on Social Protection in Nigeria, described the Two-day event timely
The Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, has successfully concluded her active participation in the two-day “Dialogue on Social Protection in Nigeria,” held from August 12-13, 2025.
The event which took place in Abuja was organized by the Africa Network for Environment and Economic Justice (ANEEJ) and its partners, under the 
European Union-funded ACT NAIJA! project, focused on “Accelerating Inclusive Social Protection in Nigeria: Building Stronger Systems for Poverty Reduction and Resilience.”
Speaking on Day 1, with discussion centered on the urgent need for a more robust social protection framework to address Nigeria’s high rate of multidimensional poverty, the Deputy Speaker engaged with policymakers and experts, emphasizing the critical importance of a collaborative approach that considers the unique challenges faced by communities at the grassroots level.
She stated that effective social protection is not merely a policy matter but a fundamental right that must be delivered with efficiency and inclusivity.
Also on Day 2 participants deliberated on strategies for strengthening existing social protection systems, improving institutional coordination, and ensuring that interventions reach the most vulnerable citizens.
The Deputy Speaker in her remark s highlighted the necessity of aligning the reviewed National Social Protection Policy with the realities on the ground, pledging to champion legislative and policy support for these initiatives within the Kogi State House of Assembly.
Rt. Hon. Nwuchiola Egwaba while giving a closing remarks, affirmed that the insights and partnerships forged during the event are invaluable.
According to her “The dialogue has provided a clear roadmap for translating national policy into tangible, life-changing outcomes.
“I am fully committed to taking these lessons back to Kogi State and working tirelessly with all stakeholders to build stronger social safety nets that will genuinely improve the lives of our people.”
The Deputy Speaker’s participation in the all important event underscored the state’s readiness to play a leading role in the national effort to reduce poverty and build resilience.
