The Kogi State Government is gearing up for a massive vaccination campaign against Measles-Rubella, scheduled to take place from October 4 to 13, 2025.
The state has begun preparations to ensure a successful rollout, with the Kogi State Primary Health Care Development Agency (KSPHCDA) leading the charge.
The KSPHCDA convened a one-day planning meeting with LGA Health Educators and Local Government Chairmen in preparation for the upcoming Integrated Measles-Rubella Vaccine Introduction scheduled for October 2025, with support from UNICEF.
The strategic meeting, held at AKK Hotel, Lokoja, brought together critical stakeholders to fine-tune strategies, strengthen coordination, and ensure effective community mobilization and widespread ahead of the campaign.
In his remarks, the State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Adams Abdullazeez Adeiza, commended the commitment of local government stakeholders, noting that their role is pivotal to achieving high coverage.
The commissioner emphasized the government’s resolve to safeguard the health of every child in Kogi.
He stressed the importance of collective responsibility in protecting children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
He further reaffirmed the government’s commitment to child health and called on stakeholders to work together to achieve widespread coverage and protect every eligible child.
“This campaign is not just about vaccines; it is about saving lives and securing the future of our children.
“The government is fully committed to ensuring no child in Kogi is left behind, and we are counting on the active support of our LGAs, community leaders, and parents,” he said.
Also speaking, the Executive Director of KSPHCDA, Dr. Mu’azu Omeiza Musa, expressed confidence in the State’s readiness to deliver a successful campaign.
The Executive Director reaffirmed the Agency’s readiness to deliver a smooth and impactful campaign: “This exercise is a vital opportunity to protect our children from vaccine-preventable diseases.
“We have the plans, the personnel, and the partnerships in place. With the cooperation of our LGA teams and support from our partners, Kogi will achieve high coverage and set a benchmark for other states,” he said.
The agency urged communities to actively participate in the upcoming campaign to ensure success.
The October rollout of the Measles-Rubella vaccine is expected to reach thousands of children across the state, further strengthening Kogi’s fight against preventable childhood illnesses.
The development Partners present at the meeting also expressed their support, pledging to continue working hand-in-hand with the state to ensure the campaign’s success.
The session underscored the importance of collaboration at all levels to guarantee high coverage and protect children across Kogi from vaccine-preventable diseases.
