17th Ward E Maulud Anniversary: Abubilat Commends Muslims for Unity and Support. By Abbas Yahaya

The Islamic Propagation League, Ward “E” in Kabawa, Lokoja, on Wednesday marked its 17th Maulud Nabiyyi, the commemoration of the birth of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), with a call for renewed commitment to the Prophet’s teachings of peace, piety and service to humanity.

The Chairman of Jami’atul-Duatal-Islamiyya, Imam Muhammad Yahya Abubilat , who is also the Chief Imam of Isa Kutepa Central Mosque and a Commissioner at the Kogi State Hajj Commission, commended Muslims in Lokoja, particularly residents of Ward “E”, for their overwhelming support towards the success of the annual celebration.

Speaking at the event, which held on October 1, 2025, Abubilat lauded Ward “E” for their donations and sacrifices in cash and kind, describing the contributions as proof of unity and love for Islam. He stressed that the essence of the gathering was to listen to the life and teachings of Prophet Muhammad (SAW) and to emulate his exemplary character.

The cleric also prayed for the repose of the souls of past contributors to the Maulud, especially the late Maigari of Lokoja, Alhaji Dr. Muhammadu Kabir Maikarfi III, whom he described as a pillar of Islamic propagation and philanthropy. He however noted that the legacy was being sustained by his successor, HRH Alhaji Dr. Ibrahim Gambo Kabir IV, the current Maigari of Lokoja.

Abubilat further expressed gratitude to notable personalities who supported the celebration, mentioning Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar , Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly; Hon Danladi Aguye , Hon. Adam Bala ; Hon. Gentle Ododo ; Hon. A A Yaba Maisaka ; Hon. Umar Aisha Amale Hajiya Marka; Baba Ali (popularly known as Tolotolo); as well as Justice Muhammad Bala Suleiman and other youth and leaders, whom he described as patriotic and worthy of emulation.

The Chief Imam of Lokoja, Sheikh Muhammad Aminu Shaban, who offered the opening prayer, expressed amazement at the colourful design and organization of the event. He described it as “one of the best-organized Maulud celebrations” he had ever witnessed, adding that the decoration was so magnificent “it looked as though it was from heaven.” He prayed for continuous progress of the Islamic Propagation League and urged them to sustain the tempo.

In his goodwill message, Justice Muhammad Bala Suleiman, Khadi of the Kogi State Sharia Court of Appeal, urged Muslims to use the Maulud as an opportunity for self-reflection. He called on believers to refrain from lying, cheating, and insulting others, stressing that even practicing one good habit sincerely could attract divine reward.

Other speakers at the event included Ustaz Dasebe Tarika and Ustaz Suleiman Muhammad Kano, who served as the guest lecturer.

The celebration attracted dignitaries within and outside Lokoja, including Sarkin Malaman Lakwaja, Sheikh Mambo, district heads, Hon. Ibrahim Suleiman Barazana, Hon Bin-Ebaiya Shehu Tijjani , Hon Bature Maikudi Engr. Engr Farouk Ymd , Hajia Tawakaltu, Alhaji Mahmuda Sardauna Faila, Waziri of Lokoja, among others.

Highlights of the anniversary included Qur’anic recitations, lectures, and photographs to mark the colourful occasion.
