Kogi Assembly Hails Five Illustrious Sons of Ankpa for Outstanding Community Development Efforts

The Kogi State House of Assembly has commended five prominent sons of Ankpa Local Government Area for their exceptional contributions to community development, security, and social welfare.

The motion, titled “Motion of Commendation for Outstanding Community Development Efforts in Ankpa Local Government Area,” was moved by the member representing Ankpa I State Constituency, Hon. Akus Lawal during plenary in Lokoja.

Hon. Akus, while presenting the motion, described the honourees as “illustrious sons of Ankpa whose remarkable and selfless efforts have continued to strengthen communities, enhance security, and improve the welfare of their people.

According to him, the honourees include; Chief Judge of the FCT High Court, Hon. Justice Baba Yusuf Husseini; the Project Coordinator, Julius Berger Plc, Engr. Ismaila Amodu Mohammed; Managing Director/CEO, Springboard Securities Ltd, Alh. Shehu Yakubu-Concern; former Director-General, National Productivity Centre, Alh. Kashim Akor and the former Group Managing Director, NAHCO Plc, Mallam Idris Yakubu.

Highlighting their individual efforts, Hon. Akus said Justice Husseini, through the Ankpa Support Group, has mobilized resources to support security agencies with operational vehicles and logistics, significantly improving security across the area while Engr. Ismaila Amodu Mohammed has personally funded key infrastructural projects, including fencing of burial and Eid grounds, construction of access roads, and erosion control measures along Ojogobi Road.

Alh. Shehu Yakubu-Concern, he added, has constructed an access road in the Low-Cost area of Ankpa, easing transportation and improving residents’ living conditions while Alh. Kashim Akor was praised for providing solar-powered streetlights across major roads and communities, installing transformers, and reconstructing Abogede Road, efforts that have improved security and stimulated economic activities.

On his part, Mallam Idris Yakubu was commended for facilitating over 150 employments for Kogi indigenes and supporting healthcare, education, youth, and women empowerment through his foundation.

Hon. Akus described their combined efforts as a true reflection of leadership and patriotism, undertaken without any expectation of political reward.

Seconding the motion, the member representing Dekina/Biraidu Constituency, Hon. Usman Shehu Ochidi, commended the honourees and urged other influential citizens from Kogi East to emulate their example.

Hon. Ochidi called for greater collaboration among well-meaning individuals to foster more grassroots development across the zone.

Also speaking, member representing Ankpa II Constituency, Hon. Abbas Linco Ocheje, and his Kogi/Koton-Karfe counterpart, Hon. Idrees Aliyu Maikudi, commended the five illustrious sons of Ankpa for their immense contributions to the development of the area and prayed Allah to guide and protect them.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Aliyu Umar Yusuf, while ruling on the motion, praised the initiative and commended Hon. Akus for bringing it before the Assembly.

He noted that such recognition would inspire others to contribute meaningfully to the development of their communities and the state at large.

“The House is proud of these men who have demonstrated that leadership and service go beyond politics. Their acts of generosity and commitment to community progress are worthy of emulation.”
