​The community of Onugwa, on Sunday 12th October, 2025, received a high-powered delegation, led by the Deputy Speaker of the Kogi State House of Assembly and member representing Ibaji State Constituency,

Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, and acting on the direct mandate of the Senator representing Kogi East, Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho. The visit was to offer condolence and tangible support following the recent, tragic boat mishap. The delegation included prominent Ibaji stakeholders:

the Commissioner for Agriculture, Mr. Timothy Ojomah; the Local Government Area Chairman, Hon. Emmanuel Ugeh; the Vice Chairman, Hon. Victoria Okolo; and the Secretary to the Local Government (SLG), amongst others.

​The Deputy Speaker conveyed Senator Echocho’s deepest sympathies. She then presented the immediate relief and preventive equipment, officially handing the cash and life jackets to the Community Chief of Onugwa. The affected community received a cash sum of Two Million Naira (N2,000,000) for the affected families and 100 high-quality life jackets out of a total of 500 lifejackets donated. In a commitment to broader safety across the district, the delegation also announced that the remaining 400 life jackets would be shared among all 10 wards in Ibaji to enhance general water safety protocols.

Delivering the Senator’s critical safety message, the Deputy Speaker stressed the need for strict adherence to safety protocols, making the use of the donated life jackets mandatory on all water journeys.

The Ibaji stakeholders extend their deepest gratitude to the distinguished Senator for this kind and timely gesture, recognizing the significant impact of the generous donations and items on the community.
