The Kogi State House of Assembly today officially declared the commencement of the Public Hearing on the Year 2026 Appropriation Bill, marking the start of what the legislature promises will be an unprecedented era of accountability.
The Chairman of the Assembly’s Committee on Appropriation, Budget and Economic Planning, Hon. Jacob Olawumi, delivered a strong message, stating unequivocally that the 2026 fiscal year “is not going to be business as usual” for Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs). He also urged all MDAs to maintain proper documentation and uphold transparency as they prepare for this “new era of legislative vigilance.”
The Deputy Speaker, Rt. Hon. Comfort Ojoma Nwuchiola Egwaba, who played an integral role in the session, fully endorsed the committee’s uncompromising stance, emphasizing that the Assembly’s primary duty is to ensure that every Naira budgeted translates into tangible development for the people of Kogi State.
Reinforcing the Assembly’s commitment to good governance, Rt. Hon. Egwaba highlighted the invitation extended to the citizens of Kogi State to actively partner in the oversight process. Citizens are encouraged to report discrepancies and bring concerns to the attention of their representatives, ensuring joint accountability across all arms of government.
The Assembly remains committed to supporting the Executive arm while fulfilling its constitutional duty of legislative checks and balances to ensure value for money in the implementation of the 2026 Budget.
