

A comprehensive international study has found that’s time-restricted eating, a popular dietary approach that limits food consumption to specific hours of the day, appears safe for older adults but may not deliver the metabolic health improvements many hope for.

The findings, while showing modest trends toward improvement, revealed no statistically significant changes in key health markers including body weight, blood sugar levels, blood pressure, or cholesterol.

Time-restricted eating (TRE) is a form of chrononutrition, the science of aligning eating patterns with the body’s natural biological rhythms. Unlike traditional diets that focus on what you eat, TRE emphasizes when you eat, typically limiting food intake to an 8-12 hour window each day.

The study did confirm, however, that time-restricted eating appears to be a safe and feasible dietary approach for older adults, with no adverse effects reported.
