Benue assembly repeals, re-enacts law for state University

The Benue state university law cap fifteen two thousand and four has been repealed and Re-enacted by the House of Assembly.

This followed a debate on the report of the House standing committee on Education, Science and Technology on a bill to repeal and re enact the law.

Making a way for the enactment chairman of the committee, William Ortyom said all the sections highlighted in the report when repealed would enhance the standard of the university and solicit the support of his colleagues.

With the successful amendment any qualified candidate for the position of VC must be sixty years,with the contribution of local governments which used to be five percent reduced to one percent while a management committee was also introduced in the new law.

After a clause by clause consideration and necessary amendments made,the speaker,Mr Titus Uba directed that the bill be read the third time and was accordingly passed.

Mr Uba thanked the committee for the good work saying that the new law would give the institution a face lift.
