Covid-19: Nigerian Motorcycle Union postpones Chairmanship Election over Covid-19 Pandemic

The Electoral Committee Of Nigerian Motorcycle Transport Association,Lokoja Local Governmen branch, has called off its Lokoja Local Government Chairmanship election amind Coronavirus pandemic.

The election which was scheduled to take place May 2,2020 was postpone indefinitely according to the electoral body.

In a press statement signed by Comrade John Daniel, Secretary General Electoral commission and made available to journalists in Lokoja on Friday.

The commission stated the election is postpone :”in view of the state government directive on social distancing and to avoid mass gathering as part of the guidelines towards containment of Covid -9 dreadful virus,and a letter received from the Deputy omission of police,Kogi state Department of operations,Kogi state command in which the electoral body was advised to suspend the election in compliance with the federal government directive on the Coronavirus pandemic, the electoral Committee hereby wish to notify all the contestants that the Motorcycle Union Electoral Commission has postpone indefinitely the election into the Chairmanship position pending the new directive from the government”

Note that Covid-19 is a global issue and is above the Constitution of the union. That the Constitution of the electoral body remain valid and all forms obtained by aspirants are also remained valid pending when election is conducted’ the state said.

It could recall that on the 30th April 2020, a meeting was held with the leadership of the union, security agencies and the SSA Security to the Governor,Hon Muhammad Danasabe Muhammad over the chairmanship election which was scheduled for the 2rd of May 2020.

At the meeting,it was agreed that the election be postponed until further notice due to the covid-19 pandemic rampaging the country.

It was also resolved that the status-quo be maintained with comrade Gimba Ibrahim as the chairman of the union Lokoja Local Government branch pending when a new Chairman emerge.
