As preparations are heightened for the conduct of local government elections in Kogi State with the constitution of State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC) , the Chairman, Senate Committee on ICT/Cybercrime, Senator Yakubu Oseni has called on various aspirants to tread with care in order not to jeopardize the prevailing peaceful coexistence of the state.
The lawmaker who is representing Kogi Central Senatorial District made the call yesterday in Lokoja while reacting to an attempt to hit up the polity and engage in campaign of calumny by some aspirants in the state especially his constituency.
Senator Oseni further noted that though elective positions are not like buffets, he admonished that those seeking for positions should continuously bear in mind that after serving as leaders, there is still life to live and the ‘society which we all crave to serve should not be thrown into turmoil’.
“Governor Yahaya Bello has been known for his security consciousness which he had invested substantially. It will be a disservice to disrupt the peace of the community with an election which could be executed without rancour. This effort by the state government to organise election that will produce local government executive chairmen should be applauded and guided by all stakeholders involved “, he admonished.
It would be recalled that Kogi State government had recently sent nominees to the State House of Assembly for screening and subsequent approval for the State Independent Electoral Commission (SIEC).
The commmission which has been inaugurated by Governor Yahaya Bello is charged with the responsibility of organising the council polls that will produce Executive Chairmen across the 21 local government areas of the state.
