Leading by example: Kogi NYSC State Coordinator, T.O Lasaki leads NYSC nation-wide sanitation in Lokoja

As sanitation is one of such routines observed in every organised and civilised community, the state coordinator of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Kogi state, Mr Taofik Olayiwola Lasaki, has joined over hundreds of Corp members in Lokoja metropolis to take part in a public environmental sanitation clean-up operation campaign yesterday.

The state coordinator, Mr Lasaki, who flagged off the exercise on behalf of the Director-General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim to sanitise the environment, led the Corp members to sweep and clean the nook and crannies of the vicinity

The Director-General of NYSC, Brig. Gen. Shuaibu Ibrahim who was ably represented by Alh. Abdulsalam Mustapha for the flag- off the monthly exercise tagged β€œClean Environment/Good Hygiene: Panacea for Good Health and Long Life at Lokoja International Market.”

In his address, the state coordinator who spoke on behalf of the Director General pointed out that the need to enlighten the general public on the health risks of poor hygiene was based on the report of the last HIRD exercise which attributed most ailments diagnosed to poor sanitation habits.

The exercise according to the Director General was an avenue to empower the people with adequate information on personal and environmental hygiene with special focus on regular environmental sanitation and proper disposal of waste among others.

Other staff who participated in the exercise included the Kogi NYSC Desk Officer for covid 19 Data Sample and Data Collection Team, Mr Etsu Muazu Idris and the Local Government Inspector (LGI) Mr.Ogunbadejo M.D

All the Corp members visited various section of the market square to immaculate the cluttered, dirty, filthy, gutter and clean the environment, making it sparkling clean and swept the market squares to ensure the vicinity remained hygienic for buying and selling.

The National youths service corps Editorial Community Development Service (CDS) spokesperson, Abbas Yahaya, told NYSC Magazine Journalist: β€œThe sanitation exercise is borne out of the DG’s desire to ensure we reside in a clean and disease-free environment. This is in line with the NYSC DG’s directive aim to serve humanity. The Kogi state NYSC coordinator deem it fit to take the lead as well and join other Corp members across the nation to have seen the need to maintain cleanliness, which is next to Godliness.”
