Local Government election held today in Benue State was characterised by low turn out of voters.
Our correspondent who monitored the exercise in Makurdi reports that most polling units recorded few voters while others had no electorate.
Election materials were also not taken to the polling units earlier than twelve noon.
A report from Gboko, Katsina Ala and Otukpo also indicates that there was also voter apathy in the election with no case of violence or electoral mis conduct.
Security operatives comprising the Army, Police, Civil Defence and Peace Corps were on the ground to ensure that the election was not truncated.
A member of the the State Assembly representing Makurdi South, Mr Terwase Aondoakaa commended the peaceful conduct of the poll and urged those who would emerge victorious to be true Servants.
Speaking after monitoring the exercise, Chairman, Benue State Independent Electoral Commission, Mr Tersoo Loko said he was impressed with the peaceful conduct assuring that the results would reflect the wishes of the people.
On the low turn out, the BSIEC Chairman said most people may have shied away from the exercise for fear of contracting coronavirus.
At the time of the report, collation of results at BSIEC Headquarters was still being awaited from across the twenty three Local Government Areas.
