Today, June 7th, 2024, marks a somber anniversary. It has been a year since our beloved Aisha Aminu, a vibrant mother of three and a shining star in the disability community, was brutally taken from us. Her tragic demise at the hands of her boyfriend, Siyaka Muhammed (suspect), has left an indelible scar on our hearts.
As we gather to mourn her passing, we are reminded of the pain and agony that she endured in her final moments. Her children, now orphaned and vulnerable, are a constant reminder of the devastating consequences of domestic violence. The thought of them growing up without their mother’s love and care is a heart-wrenching reality that we cannot ignore.
Aisha’s story is a stark reminder of the struggles faced by persons with disabilities, who are often marginalized and vulnerable to abuse. Despite her physical challenges, she lived a life that was full of purpose and meaning. She was a testament to the strength and resilience of individuals with disabilities, and her legacy will continue to inspire us to fight for a world where everyone is treated with dignity and respect.
As we mourn Aisha’s passing, we also remember the countless others who have fallen victim to domestic violence and disability-related abuse. We stand in solidarity with their families and loved ones, and we vow to continue fighting for a world where everyone can live free from fear and violence.
