The caretaker chairman of Adavi LG, Hon. Bashiru Rasheed Okatengwu has in preparation for the forthcoming Eche-ane festival hold security meeting at the council hall of the local government secretariat.
The meeting had in attendance, the Ohi of Adavi and Chairman, Adavi Traditional Council, HRH. Alh. Muhammed Bello Ireyi, Chairman, Kogi-Central Cultural Heritage, Bello Hussein (Dumba), Heads of Security Agencies in Adavi, Local Government Political Appointees, Chief Imam of Adavi, Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) President in Adavi, Traditional Chiefs, Ward Heads and Community leaders.
The caretaker chairman in his opening remarks appreciated everyone for making themselves available for the meeting, and acknowledged that for some times, the council has been unable to hold security due to some security challenges and the abduction of students from the Confluence University of Science and Technology Osara. He further thank God Almighty for the return of the students and the state government for providing the necessary support.
Hon. Bashiru Rasheed further stated that the agenda of the meeting is to engage stakeholders and reach a possible conclusion on how Eche-ane festival can be celebrated peacefully without security challenges as the festival will be coinciding with Eid-el-Adha.
Stakeholders in separate remarks made valuable contributions, suggesting possible ways of avoiding security threat in Adavi.
The Ohi of Adavi, HRH. Alh. Muhammed Bello in his contribution stated that, masquerades should be cautioned not to exhibit characters that may trigger misunderstanding with anyone. He also stated that; we live in a multi-religious community and such, everyone’s belief should be respected.
The chairman concluded by informing stakeholders that Eche-ane festival will be suspended on the 16th and 17th of June being the day of Eid-el-Adha and a day after. He further told community leaders that the permission form for custodians will have a section the their various community heads and as such, after granting permission to a custodian as a community head, it is expected of you to be watchful and vigilant during the festival and hand whoever is causing trouble to the government. “We will not condone any character that’s capable of threatening the relative peace enjoyed in Adavi,” the council boss concluded.
