Kogi Assembly Speaker presents laws passed by state legislature for Gov Ododo’s assent

The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has presented the laws that were passed by the House of Assembly to the Governor, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo for his assent.

A statement signed by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed said the presentation is taking place at the Government, Lokoja, this Thursday.

According to the statement, the Speaker said in his opening remarks that the laws were made to go through the hands of the best brains around, whom he described as ‘ best surgeons’ for effective scrutiny, debates, and assessment before their passage by the Assembly.

He said the decision of members of the Assembly to give the bills necessary concentration was in view of their ability to better the lives of citizens, and said members of the current legislature have the best interest of the citizens at heart.

The Speaker referred to the State Scholarship Board repeal law and that of the Electricity Regulatory Commission as capable of turning around the fortunes of the people of the state for the better.

He further noted that the laws showed the commitment of the current administration of Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo to open up the state for both local and foreign investments and make Kogi a hub of industrial re-engineering.

The laws assented to by the Governor include;

– A Law to repeal and Re-enact the Kogi State Local Government Service Commission Law 2014 and for other matters connected therewith, 2024.

– A Law to repeal and Re-enact the Kogi State Scholarship Board Edict, 1998 and other matters connected therewith, 2024.

– A Law to establish the Kogi State Electricity Market and the Kogi State Electricity Regulatory Commission to Regulate Electricity Generatiin, Transmission, System Operation Distribution, Supply and Promote Access to Electricity in the State through increased Private Sector Investments or Public Private Partnership in Grid, Multi-Grid and other offGrid Electricity Option using Renewable and Non-renewable Fuel Sources in the State and other Purposes Connected Therewith, 2024.

– A Law to Establish the Kogi State Anti Corruption Agency and other matters connected therewith, 2024.

– Kogi State Commodity Exchange, Export Promotion and Market Development Agency Law, 2024.

– Kogi State Information Technology Development Agency Law, 2024.

Those present at the occasion include the State Commissioner for Solid Minerals and Natural Resources, Engr Abubakar Bashir Gegu, the Commissioner for Information and Communications, Hon Kingsley Femi Fanwo, among others.
