Concerns Regarding EFCC Actions Against Former Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello

I feel sad to express my concern regarding the recent actions of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) towards Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the former Governor of Kogi State. The Executive Secretary, Kogi State Office for Disability Affairs, Hon. Yakubu Nazir Abdulhakeem has condemned the treatment that Mr. Bello has received, especially when compared to other former governors, such as Bello Matawale of Zamfara and Abdullahi Umar Ganduje of Kano, who appear to have been treated differently.

It raises questions as to why the EFCC seems intent on humiliating Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, particularly given his significant contributions to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and his commitment to inclusivity. In 2018, he signed the Disabilities Law, making Kogi State the first in Nigeria to ensure the election of women to key political positions, including Vice Chairpersons and Council Leaders across all 21 local governments. His efforts have positioned the APC as an inclusive party on the global stage, promoting the rights and representation of marginalized groups.

What exactly is the offense of Yahaya Adoza Bello, other than his dedication to promoting the party and its values? If given the opportunity, I believe he would extend this commitment to the national level, benefiting all Nigerians.

I urge all supporters of FGYB not to be discouraged by the current situation. Many great leaders in Africa have faced similar predicaments. President Olusegun Obasanjo was imprisoned for his principles, only to later serve as Nigeria’s president. Nelson Mandela endured years in prison before leading South Africa toward freedom. Even Muammar Gaddafi, despite his controversial legacy, faced dire consequences for his governance, and many Libyans now regret their actions in the wake of economic hardship.

I firmly believe that after this storm, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello will emerge stronger than ever and lead this country towards a brighter future.
