Egwaba Encourages Grassroots Women to Participate in Politics Actively

Women at the grassroots have been advised to always be courageous and be determined to contribute their quotas to the development of Nigeria through active participation in politics .
They are also advised not to be discouraged by the menfolk dominance and threats or traditions and cultures which for long have been stumbling blocks to their participations in political activities.

The Deputy Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Mrs Comfort Ojoma Nwochiola Egwaba made the above statements during an advocacy program organized by House of Representatives Committees on Constitution Review in collaboration with Policy and Legal Advocacy Centre ( PLAC) at Transcorps Hotel, Abuja.
The Deputy Speaker contended that majority of their advocacy should centre on the grassroots women who should be carried along, adding that without them the advocacy would flop.

According to her , she is a grassroots politician who had served as a council chairperson, supervisory councillor , served as political appointees at
one time or the other, now as a legislator and the first female Deputy Speaker in Kogi State.

Egwaba averred that there was an enormous need to create a lot of awareness on the grassroots women on why they should be actively involved in politics.
The lawmaker disclosed that there are a lot of challenges against women from the menfolk who threaten by asking for their worth and political support base but she strongly advised that women should not be discouraged by such treats .
Hear her:” if you don’t know your worth,if you are not determined and focused on your vision , you can easily be put off politics and humiliated”.
She added that the women politicians should give themselves encouragement no matter what the men said .
She praised the grassroots women in politics for their resilience and show of courage in how far they have stayed on despite the penchant for discouragement from the menfolk .
Dignitaries present at the advocacy workshop are council of Speakers of Houses of Assembly ,among who is the Speaker of Kogi State, Rt Hon Umar Yusuf .
