The Kogi State Government has commenced online registration for the 2025 bursary allowance for its students, in tertiary institutions across the country.
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Mr Wemi Jones in Lokoja, said the free online registration exercise, tagged: “Ododo Students’ Support Season 2”, had begun on Sept. 29 and would close on Oct. 31.
Jones urged students to take advantage of the gesture.
The commissioner described the exercise as an improved and transparent registration process.
He reaffirmed Gov. Ahmed Ododo’s commitment to making Kogi a positive reference point for educational development in Nigeria.
“This year’s exercise, tagged: “Season Two” of the bursary scheme, is designed to consolidate on the successes recorded during the previous phase.
“Gov. Ododo is determined to build on the foundation already laid to ensure more students benefit from this bursary award.
“We expect the number of beneficiaries to surpass that of last year and I assure you that the funds are already set aside for disbursement,” Jones said.
The commissioner urged the students’ leadership to carry out rigorous sensitisation campaign to ensure adequate participation of Kogi students across the country.
The Executive Chairman, Kogi State Scholarship Board (KSSB) Mr Afolabi Joseph-Raji, urged eligible students to visit:https://scholarshipboard.kogistate.gov.ng to register and upload the required documents including bank account details.
He explained that the portal would close for registration and upload of documents on Oct. 31.
According to him, the board will present details of valid applications to the consultant for verification of students’ identities and enrolment status with academic institutions on Nov. 3.
Joseph-Raji said the disbursement of the allowances to verified students would begin on Jan. 26, 2026.
He commended Gov. Ododo for revitalising the bursary process and making it more accessible to students.
The chairman noted that not less than 8,750 students benefited last year from the scheme, with undergraduates receiving N30,000 and law students N300,000.
He noted a total of N316,770,000 was disbursed to 8,750 students, including 201 law students.
“This year’s registration is straightforward, requiring students to create an account and upload documents on the portal.
“So, it is not enough to just register, you have to upload some required documents too,” Joseph-Raji said.
He urged the National Association of Kogi State Students (NAKOSS) leadership, to intensify sensitisation efforts, to ensure that more students across the country took advantage of the opportunity.
According to him, all eligible students including those that received the bursary allowance in the previous season, are to register afresh.
The President of NAKOSS, Mr Solomon Adeola, commended the governor for sustaining and expanding the bursary initiative, describing it as “legendary and life-touching”.
Adeola assured that the association would mobilise widely, to raise awareness among students to maximize participation.
