The Director-General, Energy Commission of Nigeria (ECN) Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha has seek the collaboration of LONGi Solar Company to
advanced discussions on the establishment of a 500–1,000 MW solar panel production factory in Nigeria.
Dr Mustapha in an effort to actualize the vision of ECN under his leadership led Nigerian delegation to LONGi’s headquarters in Xi’an, China, where they toured one of the world’s largest solar cell production facilities.
According to him, the initiative has the potential to transform Nigerian’s renewable energy landscape.
“We were warmly received by the President and Vice President of LONGi. This visit builds on the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) we signed earlier this year in London.
“We advanced discussions on establishing a 500–1,000 MW solar panel production factory in Nigeria. This is an initiative with the potential to transform our renewable energy landscape” he stated.
The Director-General highlighted Africa’s growing market for solar solutions and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Solarisation Policy, which he stated seeks to expand access to clean energy nationwide.
He pointed out that LONGi has expressed strong interest in investing in Nigeria and declared it’s readiness to proceed with concrete plans.
“This partnership marks a major step toward boosting local manufacturing, creating jobs, and strengthening Nigeria’s energy security” he noted.
