UNILORIN will admit MBBS students for 2026/2027 session: Mgt

The University of Ilorin (UNILORIN) has dismissed reports circulating on social media that it will not admit candidates into its Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) programme for the 2026/2027 academic session, describing the claims as false and misleading.
The institution, in a statement issued on Saturday by its Director of Corporate Affairs, Kunle Akogun, said the rumour did not originate from the university and should be ignored by prospective students, parents and members of the public.
According to the university, admission into the MBBS programme for the 2026/2027 session will go ahead as planned, noting that applications have already been advertised and registration for the Post-Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (Post-UTME) screening is currently in progress.
“The University wishes to state categorically that the information being bandied on social media did not originate from the University and does not represent its official position. It is a misleading rumour intended to confuse prospective admission seekers and should be disregarded in its entirety,” the statement said.
The management reaffirmed its commitment to admitting qualified candidates into the medical programme, adding, “The University reiterates that it will admit students into the MBBS programme for the 2026/2027 academic session. We have already advertised for admission into the programme and Post-UTME registration is currently ongoing.”
Addressing concerns over medical graduates who are yet to be inducted, the university acknowledged the situation and assured affected graduates that efforts were underway to resolve the issue.
It disclosed that it is actively engaging with the relevant regulatory authorities to ensure the induction process is concluded as quickly as possible.
“We wish to assure all concerned graduates that every necessary effort is being made to ensure that their induction takes place in the shortest possible time, as the University is actively engaging with the relevant regulatory authorities to facilitate the process,” the statement added.
The institution appealed to affected graduates to remain patient, assuring them that further updates would be communicated in due course.
UNILORIN also assured students currently studying medicine that measures have been put in place to ensure that their academic programmes are not disrupted.
According to the management, “The academic progress and welfare of our students remain our priority, and we will continue to take proactive steps to sustain their academic strides.”
The university also reaffirmed its respect for the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN), saying it would continue to engage constructively with the regulatory body to ensure all outstanding issues are resolved amicably.
The management urged prospective students, parents and other stakeholders to disregard misinformation on social media and rely only on official communication channels of the university for authentic information.
It stressed that the institution remains committed to excellence, stability and maintaining the highest standards in medical education.
