Senate passed Bill for Nigerian Law School Campus Kabba, 5 Others
The Senate on Tuesday passed the bill seeking for the establishment of a law school in Kabba, headquarters of Kogi West Senatorial didtrict.
The Kabba centre will be one of the six additional campuses for the Nigerian Law to be established.
The Bill was sponsored by the Senator representing Kogi West, Smart Adeyemi.
But the Senate President in his wisdom appeal for calm and said since there will be two Campuses in every geopolitical zone, Abuja as the Federal Capital deserves one.
The Senate thereafter agreed that aside the Kabba campus, another one should be sited in Jos to complete the second slot for the North Central.
The bill is entitled:”A bill for an act to amend the Legal Education (Consolidation ETC.) Act by establishing the campuses for the Nigerian Law School, and for other related matters”.
Law School developed a Multi-Campus structure in 1999 and the original premises in Lagos became the Lagos Campus of the Nigerian Law School.
Adeyemi in his argument has noted that the Nigerian Law School is an Educational Institution set up to provide a Nigerian Legal Education to foreign-trained lawyers, and to also provide practical training for aspiring Legal Practitioners in Nigeria.
Senator Adeyemi stressed that the amendment to the Nigerian Council of Legal Education is to encourage the Federal Government of Nigeria to increase the number of law school across the six geopolitical zone in the country.
He said the Bill will rescue the future of Nigerian youths, to safe parents from the burden of prolonged dependency, and to reposition the Nigerian Law School for optimal service delivery.
