Over 1000 members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have decamped to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) at Agbeji Ajikagbo in Dekina Local Government Area of Kogi State.
Receiving the decampees, the Chairman of the Local Government, Prince Ishaq Shaibu Okolo said their decision to join the ruling party is thoughtful and a step in the right direction.
According to him, as a progressive party, APC is big enough to accommodate everyone that is ready to join the train.
He assured the new entrants of equal treatment and enjoined them to work hard for the success of the ruling party especially as the nation prepares for the 2023 general elections.
The Chairman expressed satisfaction with the process the party is making is the State, describing Governor Yahaya Bello as a tested and trusted Leader who if given the opportunity to rule the country will meet the yearnings and aspirations of Nigerians.
He added that APC is a party to beat in future elections and stressed the need for the decampees to be loyal and work in line with the ideas of the Party.
Responding on behalf of the defected PDP members, the Leader of the group Engineer Andrew Onu Adama said they were moved by the call on Governor Bello to contest for the President of Nigeria come 2023 and towards ensuring the realization of the dream.
According to him, they decided to join the ruling party based on the need to attract dividends of democracy to Dekina Local Government Area.
Engineer Adama called on the people of the area to support the administrations of Gov. Bello and President Muhammadu Buhari, describing the Chairman of the Area as man that believes in the emancipation of his his People.
He expressed optimism that the State Governor will become the next President of Nigeria in view of the manner in which he has provided adequate security as well as Unity of the State.
Engineer Adama who also bagged an award of excellence from a Non Governmental Organization, National Volunteer Services Dispora Affairs, thanked the group for the honour which he noted would spur him to do more.
The State Coordinator of the NGO, Comrade Ibrahim Itodo said the Award was in recognition of the modest service of Engr. Adama to God and humanity.
Comrade Itodo enjoined the Awardee to see the honour as a reward for hard work and sustain the tempo.
