The Anglican Diocese of Lokoja has commenced its annual five-day joint retreat for clergy and their wives, scheduled for September 21–25, 2026, at the permanent site of the Good Shepherd Anglican Academy.
The retreat, to be led by the Diocesan Bishop, the Most Rev. Dr Emmanuel A. S. Egbunu, is focused on the spiritual welfare of clergy, effective ministry to God’s people, family relationships and capacity building.
This year’s theme, “The Worship Leader as Worshipper of God and Counsellor of God’s People,” is drawn from Malachi 2:5–9.
A major feature of the programme is the grouping of participants according to their years of ordination: _those within their first five years, clergy in_ years six to ten, and those ordained for 13 years and above. The arrangement is expected to provide opportunities for focused discussions, experience sharing and reflection before participants reconvene for joint sessions.
The Diocese has expressed appreciation to members who have responded to its appeal for financial support towards the various aspects of the retreat, while appealing for continued prayers as preparations and activities progress.
The retreat will end with the foundation-laying ceremony for the chapel at the Good Shepherd Anglican Academy site. The chapel project, which began several years ago, was suspended due to funding constraints.
The Diocese is seeking prayers for the success of the retreat, the spiritual renewal of its clergy and their wives, the provision of resources for the chapel project, and God’s guidance and presence throughout the gathering.
