Adabenege Adams: Youthful and Useful as Chairman, Kogi State Local Govt Service Commission

Comrade Adabenege Adams was born in late 1970s into the family of in the present day Okene Local Government, Kogi State. His parents, Mr and Mrs Adabenege was renowned for their community leadership and development effort and excelled in their chosen career in the civil service. As devout Muslims, his parents ensured that the young Adams is nurtured and grew with the utmost fear of Allah, His supreme will and absolute respect for humanity as enshrined in the Holy Qur’an.

It is in this regard that the young but determined Adams dexterously combined Islamic learning with Western Education at a very tender age. Adams began the pursuit of Western Education in the year 1982 when he was enrolled in LGEA Primary School Inike in Okene. After six years of stay at the Primary School where his sterling academic performance distinguished him from his peers, Adams’ father, a lover of Western Education immediately asked him to pursue advance learning in the prestigious Lennon Memorial College, Ageva in Okene Local Government Area in 1992. Adams who was fortunate to discover his study interest early enough later enrolled in Qualitative Secondary School Okengwe where he consequently obtained his National Business and Technical Education Board (NABTEB) certificate in 2010.

As a young man who is blessed in the area of sciences especially Mathematics, Adams became a bride to many secondary schools proprietors, wooing him to a accept job offers upon graduation from Secondary school. However, his desires to acquire more formal skills and to be well grounded in his chosen career of Accounting and Taxation made him to decline any job offer at the tender age which has the propensity of diverting his attention from his future endeavors.

Therefore from 1995 to 1997, Comrade Adams with unquenchable zeal for self development got admitted at Kogi State Polytechnic, Lokoja where he studied Public Account and Audit.

From Kogi State Polytechnic, he once again relaunched his academic search to the renowned Federal Polytechnic Nasarawa, in Nasarawa State where he later obtained National Diploma and Higher National Diploma in Accountancy(as it is called in the school).

The ever zealous and upright-thinking Adams did not rest on his hard-earned academic laurels at the Polytechnic without caping it up with a University Degree. More so, in his desires to present a rare hybrid product of both public and private education in the country, Adams in 2013 sought admission into Salem University Lokoja for a degree in Accounting.

Not yet satisfied with his level of knowledge in the field of Accounting, the ambitious Adams who has now become an expert in Auditing and Investigation recently obtained a Masters Degree after a very rigorous academic exercise in Salem University, Lokoja.

Adams is a member of many professional accounting organization. Some of them are the Institute of Chartered Accountant of Nigeria(student member), Nigeria Institute of Management (Chartered), Association of National Accountant of Nigeria, and several others.

Until his appointment as the Chairman, Kogi State Local Government Service Commission, Adams has been working in the Tax Audit department of the Kogi Internal Revenue Service (KIRS). He had previously worked with several multinational organisations and served his fatherland in the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) scheme in Taraba State.

His appointment did not come as a surprise to many people especially those on the trail of appointments made by Governor Yahaya Bello since his inauguration as Executive Governor of the Confluence State in 2016. Governor Yahaya Bello, much to the admiration of his political opponents has been renowned for his penchant for engaging vibrant, virile and youthful youths into strategic offices in the state.

Adams Adabenege, equipped with necessary moral and academic prerequisites to discharge any state assignment has since hit the ground running at the Kogi State Local Government Service Commission. It is hoped that his reign at the commission will be fruitful and in tandem with the vision of Governor Yahaya Bello who is poised to redirect the state on the path of all round socio-economic transformation.
