The second session of the Tenth synod of the Diocese of Lokoja Anglican Communion was held from 20th July 2023 to 23red July 2023 at St Luke’s Anglican Church Adankolo, Lokoja with His Grace The Most Rev’d Emmanuel A. S Egbunu, Ph. D presiding. Consequent upon this, the following Communique was issued at:
1) The Synod resolved in keeping with this year’s theme ‘As for me and my house, we will serve the Lord, (Joshua 24:14-15) that all members and their households would come to a personal decision to serve the Lord.
2) The Synod express delight with the continual attention given by Kogi State Government in the health and educational sectors, especially with recently the happy news of the approval of a state university in Okun land, urging that the strides should be sustained.
3) The Synod, however, expresses grave concern over the unfolding political scenario in the state, expressing shock at the increasing bigotry and hard lines of division that now pervades the state.
4) The Synod also lamented the polarization of the state political environment along religious and ethnic lines.
5) The Synod emphasizes the urgent need for political leaders to prioritize unity and bridge the growing divide among the people and called for immediate action to foster dialogue and understanding, while promoting a sense of shared identity and common purpose within the state.
6) The Synod appealed to His Excellency, Governor Yahaya Bello as the chief security officer of the State to do all in his power to mobilise the security apparatus in the state to stem the tide of escalating insecurity and to ensure level playing ground and safety in the state before and beyond the election period.
7) The Synod noted further that the nation’s judiciary is on trial whatever the outcome of the election tribunals, adding that the nation and indeed the entire world are watching with keen interest.
8) The Synod expressed its shock at the growing number of Nigerians who now defend the unjustifiable, lamenting how tragic it has become for respectable people to lend their voices to support injustice and mediocrity, thinking that the ends justify the means.
9) The Synod sought for divine intervention and guidance to help the Kogi people overcome their challenges and for the nation as a whole to find unity and strength during these difficult times while emphasizing the importance of collective prayers and support in fostering resilience and hope amidst adversity.
