Kogi State House of Assembly is intervening on the closure of Federal Medical Centre Lokoja which was shut down due to attack by thugs.
On July first twenty-twenty, armed thugs invaded the Federal Medical Centre Lokoja, carting away cash, laptops and handsets, among others.
This made the Management of the Hospital to shut down the only Federal Health Facility in the State.
For more than two months now, Kogi State House of Assembly is now intervening on the matter, mandating its Committee on Health to interface with the management of FMC, Federal Ministry of Health and the State Ministry of Health.
This followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Lokoja One, Umar Tenimu and seconded by Rabiu Momoh of Ankpa two.
Tenimu explained that medical cases are now being referred to Abuja as a result of the closure of the Centre.
He called on the State government to intervene in the matter to enable the people access the health facility.
The Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole in his ruling directed the House Committee on Health to interface with relevant stakeholders and report to the House.
He noted that the continued closure of the hospital is worrisome to the House in view of its importance to the health needs of Kogi people.
In a similar vein, Kogi State House of Assembly has invited the Commissioners of Health, Haruna Saka, that of Education, Science and Technology, Wemi Jones, Vice Chancellor of Prince Abubakar Audu University Anyigba, Professor Marietu Tenuche and the Chief Medical Director of Kogi State University Teaching Hospital to appear before the Joint Committees on Health, Education Science and Technology to brief it on the state of the Kogi State University teaching hospital Anyigba.
Also, the House Committee on Public Account has been mandated to probe funds accruing to the University and report back in the next two weeks.
In another development, a bill for a law to Provide for the Collection and Disposal of Solid Wastes and Management of Waste in Kogi State and that for a law to Create Favourable Environment for Regulation and Development of Tourism Sector and other matters connected therewith have passed through first reading.
The two private member bills are sponsored by the member representing Ijumu Constituency, Kilani Olumo.
