Kogi State Government has been called upon to regulate the activities of private hospitals and quackery in the medical profession.

The call followed a motion of urgent public importance moved by the member representing Okehi Constituency, Muktar Bajeh at plenary today.

The activities of Private medical centres in Kogi State is now worrisome especially at the rural areas.

This ranges from quackery and extortion of innocent people of the State just to mention but a few.

This is why the State House of Assembly is calling on Government to regulate the activities of private hospitals in the State.

Presenting a motion on regulating activities of Private Hospitals, the Chief Whip, Muktar Bajeh emphasized the need for proper check the conduct of private medical practitioners, urging the state government to enforce the regulation of private hospital law.

Seconding the motion, the member representing Dekina Biraidu Constituency, Moses Ododo said the motion is a wake up call for government to regulate private medical institutions and check quackery.

Other members Collins Musa of Omala and Rabiu Alfa of Ankpa two described the motion as timely, adding that the conduct of private medical practitioners if not checked will cause more harm to the people.

The Speaker, Prince Matthew Kolawole stated that establishing clinics and pharmacy should be properly checked and advocated treatment of patients before collecting money.

The House Adjourned to the thirtieth of this month for the Committees on Health, Education, Public Accounts as well as that of Judiciary and Justice to carry out oversight functions.
