I congratulate Nigerians for the golden opportunity Allah has granted unto us to mark 60th year celebration of our Nation’s independence.
For the past 60 years, our country has journeyed through various phases of nationhood even amidst challenges that seemed to threaten our togetherness. Granted that no developed nation of the world has been totally free from internal wranglings, Nigerians’ uniqueness and determination are displayed by the renewed vigour with which we always weather the storm and prevail on all issues bothering on national development.
Nigeria, no doubt has continued to maintain her pride as the Giant of Africa considering the pace of economic, political, social and technological advancement that both past and present leaders have made since independence on 1st October, 1960.
As the Chairman, Senate Committee on Information and Communication Technology/Cybercrime, I commend the preparedness of our nation to always keep abreast of breakthroughs made in the area of digital and technological sector just as I use this opportunity to call on the government to do more on the improvement of digital infrastructure across the country. Our recent oversight visits across Federal Government’s Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) where my team assessed their cyber architecture leaves us with the conclusion that Nigeria is in line with global pace in the world of ICT.
Therefore, I call on Nigeria teeming youths who have always been blessed with the innate dexterity in the use of internet and other digital devices to use the cyberspace with the utmost regard for Nigeria’s corporate image both within and in the diaspora. Our engagement in cyberspace and the real world should not be geared towards negation of the sweat of our founding fathers who laboured so hard and sacrificed so much to build and bequeath to us this wonderful nation.
I therefore use this opportunity to congratulate President Muhammadu Buhari, Senate President, Distinguished Senator Ahmed Lawan, Speaker of the Nigeria House of Representatives, Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila and the entire members of the National Assembly.
Also, I heartily congratulate Governor Yahaya Bello and members of his cabinet, my wonderful constituents and all Nigerians for being amongst history makers for posterity.
I pray that Allah will continue to give us the grace to consolidate on great legacy bequeathed to us by our founding fathers.
Happy 60th Independence Celebration.
Senator Yakubu Oseni
