The political atmosphere in Ondo State has become tense with verbal brickbats flying across the state. Either in the ruling or the opposition party, non of the leading political platforms can convincingly answer the question of unity among its members.

leaders of the All Progressive Congress were on channel TV politics today and the gentlemen who are apparently representatives of their people and stakeholders of the Party practically washed their dirty linen in public.

They were in the TV studio to clear some confusion that have beclouded the raging controversy trailing the impeachment move against the embattled deputy governor of the state, Honorable Alfred Agboola Ajayi

While Honorable Ogundeji Iroju is the deputy speaker of the house of Assembly, Victor Olabimtan is the Special Adviser to governor Rotimi Akeredolu on political matters, both of whom are of APC extraction in Ondo State.

But in the studio, they literally became opposition to each other as a result of their conflicting interests in the political imbroglio that is fast tearing the party apart in the state.

In the heat of argument, Iroju opened the can of warm on what actually led to his suspension in the house. He was among the nine lawmakers who vehemently stood against the Impeachment of the deputy governor.

Speaking on the root of the conspiracy, the legislator said he got a call from a colleague in the house who apparently pitched his tent with Aketi team and notified him about the development as well as the juicy amount placed on it.

Similarly, the state Chairman of the party, Engr. Ade Adetimehin called and made the same offer. All he needed to do was to append his signature to the list of lawmakers that would make up the 2/3rd majority for the process.

He claimed to have turned down the ten million naira offer on the basis of conscience. According to him, he has been a close ally with the man and would be unfair if he decided to betray him for money.

Iroju who did not hide the fact that there is a crack in Akeredolu’s government did not see any reason for Ajayi to be impeached. And if there is need to impeach him, then a due process has to be followed without having to soil his name.

But his counterpart, Victor Olabimtan has a different view. Agboola has cheated the party by defecting to PDP with his position and deserve to be relieved of his duty as deputy governor.

He noted that the APC Chairman intimated the national body about the impeachment plan and there was an approval from them to carry it out.

According to him, no one is against his leaving the party but he has to resign his position first. As a deputy governor who has a joint ticket with the governor, it is wrong of him to go to another party with what belongs to APC.

Olabimtan who did not deny the 10million naira bribe however exonerated the governor as the masquerade behind the offer. He explained that the offer was actually originated among the lawmakers in the assembly.

Despite the desperate move to impeach the deputy governor, the ruling party is still struggling to get the constitutionally required number to make the dream come alive.

To make the matter worse, the chief justice of the state, Oluwatoyin Akeredolu who was written to set up a panel to probe the allegations against the deputy governor, bluntly returned the letter on the basis of lack of merit and told the speaker, Bamidele Oleyelogun to go and do his homework.

So far, a lawmaker has been suspended indefinitely over the matter. There are clear indications that more heads will still roll in the days ahead if the move to impeach deputy governor continues to suffer a set back.
