… Organises debate
The Stagerher summit 2023, in commemoration of International Day of the Girl-Child has been held with a call on parents to shun harmful traditional practices that affects the girl child negatively.
The call was made by
Voice of Women Evolution (VOWE) Foundation who sponsored the debate program to mark the event.
Represented by Miss Nwagu Loveth Chisom, urged the girl child to believe in herself insisting that parents should make the education and empowerment of their girl child a priority.
The event was held at All Seasons Hotel Owerri, with the debate organized between Imo government girls secondary and Owerri City Secondary School.
The topic of the debate was Harmful traditional practices, a barrier to women/girls participation in governance in Nigeria, saw the proposing team winning the debate.
A prize money of N150,000, N100,000 and N50,000 was presented to the first, second and third position.
A total of ten schools were in attendance at this year’s event, with each school bringing in 10 students, making a total of 100 students.
The program was organized by heal global, while the debate cash prize was sponsored by the NGO.
VOWE Foundation is the same NGO that is organizing the Sophie Uzodimma Onovo Undergraduate women Scholarship for final year female students in all government owned higher institutions in IMO and Enugu State respectively.
