Kwara Governor’s reelection bid receives boost

***As Kwara North APC elders throw weight behind him

By Stephen Olufemi Oni, Ilorin

Ahead of the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship primary election in Kwara state, Elders of the APC from the Kwara North Senatorial District have thrown their weight behind Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s second term bid.

Addressing journalists in Ilorin, the state capital, on behalf of the elders, Ambassador Nurudeen Mohammed said: “At the close of nominations for various offices as approved by the guidelines and timetable of the APC and at the last count of the list of aspirants who have expressed interest under our party in Kwara state, there is no aspirant that expressed the intention to contest for the office of governor against the incumbent Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.”

Besides, the Ambassador said in the history of Kwara state, no governor except AbdulRazaq has done so much to develop the entire state, particularly the Kwara North Senatorial District.

He said: “We therefore feel that he (AbdulRazaq) deserves another opportunity to serve our people and do much more for them. One good turn deserves another.

Similarly, the elders are canvassing the return of the Senator for the Kwara North, Sadiq Umar, who they opined has performed creditably well for his Kwara North constituency in the last three years.

“As elders of the party we have also observed that no serious or credible aspirant in our party, the APC, has shown interest to contest for the office of Senator in Kwara North.

“Having performed creditably well and having shown interest to recontest, we therefore give him full support and urge all our delegates to vote for him as the party’s candidate.”
