The National President, National Association of Kogi State Students Comr. Rachael Mojirola Balogun has applauded Pharm. Jamiu Abdulkareem Asuku on his commitment and steadfastness towards the improvements and development of Kogi youths and students along various aspects of their individual and academic destinies, declared him as Kogi State Students ambassador for reformation. The future of our state lies in our desire to transform learning for our students.
Speaking during a press briefing at the National secretariat of the association in Lokoja on Monday, 13th of September 2021, the President said that the Pharmacist Abdulkareem Asuku Youths Empowerment Foundation (PAAYEF) 2021 quiz and debate competitions slated to hold across the three senatorial districts of Kogi State are a solid credence to His Excellency Governor Yahaya Bello’s efforts to transform the education sector of the state.
According to the President, the initiative will reinvent the education system and give students a break from traditional classroom learning as there is a dire need to revive the education culture in schools and colleges. And programs like this can act as a facilitator by bringing innovation to quizzes, essays and debate competitions and ensuring active participation among students. Apart from the obvious academic benefits of expanding a student’s knowledge and exploring new skills at an early age. She added that the theme of the competition “Reviving the Glory of Education” which is geared towards reviving the essence of education and students mentorship in Kogi State corresponds with her administration’s blueprint. Moreso, PAAYEF quiz and essay competition will redefine the education system in significant ways:
Interactive platform: Today, quizzes are interactive platforms where students are not participating to take home a prize or get famous overnight, but to gain knowledge, seek opportunities to excel beyond academics and secure their future.
Changes scope of learning: Since questions are based out-of-syllabus and require critical thinking and extensive research, students get into the habit of innovative learning from an early age.
Encourages team work: Students need to form teams while participating in quizzes, giving them an opportunity to hone their teamwork skills.
Bridges
Academia-industry gap: During interviews, recruiters have found that Nigerian students are good in theoretical knowledge but are not privy to the type of knowledge that employers seek because of the current pattern of curriculum. Hence, there is still a huge gap in preparing our students for the market. The National President stated.
