The Speaker of Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Aliyu Umar Yusuf has congratulated Muslims across the State and the country over the sighting of crescent moon for Monday’s commencement of 1445 Islamic Lunar Calendar’s Ramadan fast.
This is contained in a press statement signed and made available to journalists in Lokoja by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Yabagi Mohammed.
Rt Hon Umar, who enjoined Muslims to rededicate themselves to the worship of Allah, said Ramadan is a sacred month in which Muslims are expected to totally commit to acts of worship and avoid anything that would vitiate their fast.
The Speaker used the occasion to congratulate the State Governor and members of his cabinet for the commencement of Ramadan, and called on Muslims to continue to pray for the betterment of the nation, even in the face the current difficulty being faced.
He urged Nigerians and citizens of Kogi State not to lose faith in the ability of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Ahmed Usman Ododo to bring succour to them as demonstrated in the many intervention packages of government, stating that they were not resting on their desire to see a better citizenry.
Rt Hon Umar also advised Muslims to also remember the State legislature in their supplications because they are a collective that is ready to roll out good legislations and programmes that would move the state forward.
To effectively do that, the Speaker enjoined Islamic faithful to engage in supregatory prayers (Nafila), recite the Holy Qur’an, give alms, be gentle and peaceful in their conducts and always have the remembrance of Allah in whatever they do throughout the Ramadan period and beyond.
While praying for a successful fasting period, he expressed the belief that at the succour would come to Kogi State at the end of it all.
